New members welcome
The WGHS is affiliated to the Royal Horticultural Society and is operated and managed by volunteers on behalf of members to promote the enjoyment, knowledge and practice of horticulture now and for the future. We are a friendly group of enthusiastic gardeners and allotmenteers willing to share our knowledge and plants.
Membership is open to anyone with an interest in horticulture. The society is non - profit making and all income is directed back into the society for the benefit of members.
Membership in 2024 is free of charge whilst we implement our new membership system and 'get back to business'. Depending on how things go we will review whether we have to reintroduce membership fees from 2025.
Shows
The August Flower Show returned to the Village Hall on Bank Holiday Monday after a gap of a year, thanks to the considerable efforts of the new committee with the support over the weekend of a cohort of enthusiastic volunteers. With 39 entrants and 275 entries to the Show, the hall was brimming with flowers and produce from across the village and beyond, which was lovely to see. This was particularly pleasing in the context of a challenging year in the garden, with the weather changing radically from one day to the next, and our short summer appearing so late that many wondered whether it would appear at all… Despite all that, the judges (who are all independent and judge shows across the south east) remarked on the very high standard of entries at Wisborough Green, so congratulations to all who put entries in the Show, whether you won a cup or not!
It was also pleasing to see so many people visiting the Show on the day, with the hall busy from start to finish. One couple told us that they had come from Lewis just to see Wisborough Green’s flower show - when told that there was also a fete on the Green, that came as an unexpected bonus.
I should like to thank the committee members who put so much in the months leading up to and over the bank holiday weekend to relaunch the flower show, and to the team of volunteers who helped so much over the weekend – a great team effort.
Tom Christopherson

Christmas Wreath Making
This year we would like to invite you to an exciting Christmas event on Saturday December the 7th at Wisborough Green Village Hall. We will be hosting a Christmas wreath making class. All the ingredients will be supplied to make a stunning traditional wreath of locally grown and sourced greenery, adorned with orange slices, cinnamon, fir cones and luscious ribbon. There will be a demonstration to start and then expert tuition to help you craft your own wreath. No previous experience necessary, all you will need to bring is a pair of secateurs or strong scissors. A glass of prosecco and mince pies will help to fuel the festive spirit and creative flow. The event will start at 2.30 p.m. and finish at approximately 4.30 p.m. The cost of the class is £25 for members and £35 for non-members, spaces are limited. To book a space please contact Kate Osborne on katemosborne@aol.com or leave a message on 01403 700165. Places are first come, first served and the deadline for bookings is November the 15th. All proceeds from the event will go towards supporting future Hort. Soc. events. Please do come and join us, it is going to be a great way to kick off the festive season, indulge your creativity, learn a new skill and craft a fabulous wreath for your front door.
Trips
In recent years we have organised trips to Kew Gardens and The Savill Garden together with informal visits to more local gardens.
History
