We are a friendly, sociable, informal walking group that has been running for over 25 years. We are entirely run by volunteers who lead weekly Sunday circular walks in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire. Despite the club's name, we aren’t just for single people. Couples, friends, or people on their own are all very welcome. We are connected by our love of discovering new places on our doorstep and the stunning views, pretty villages, and beautiful countryside we are very lucky to live near. Our members are currently 50+ but we would welcome people of any age.
Our Walks
We walk every Sunday throughout the year, usually starting at 10:30am but ask that people arrive 10-15 minutes beforehand. Walks are normally between 5-7miles. Occasionally there may be a longer walk organised of around 8-10 miles. We try to accommodate all abilities, but we usually keep a healthy pace and the landscape can be hilly. Walk descriptions will normally indicate the terrain that you can expect.
Next walk
If you would like to come on a walk, you are welcome to just turn up or contact us via the email link below. We will then let you have the contact details of the walk leader, who can also let you know if it's possible for you to join us for lunch if you so wish. If you're interested in joining the club, we suggest you join a couple of walks first, just to confirm that the club will suit you. We welcome new members! After a couple of walks, we'd be happy to invite you to fill in our very simple application form.
Our next walks are as follows. They all start at 10:15am (boots on) for a 10:30am start unless specified.

More than just walks
Members also organise occasional social events, with our Christmas lunch being the highlight of the year. Walks often start and finish at a pub or cafe. The walk leaders will book a table for those who are interested in staying for something to eat.
Weekends away and trips abroad have also been organised by members in the past.
Over the many years that Single File has been running there have been lots of long-term friendships forged. We are keen however to have new people join us and share our passion of walking, socialising and having fun.
Join us
There is no membership fee and people are welcome to just turn up and join a walk. However, as our programme of walks sometimes changes at short notice, please check back on this website before you set off!
Single file success is dependent on our amazing volunteer walk leaders. There is no obligation, but we are keen that as many people as possible offer to lead walks to share the load and help us discover new places.
Safety
All walkers are expected to walk at their own risk and have appropriate clothing and equipment for the weather conditions and terrain.
