About the group

Our OUS group is an autonomous, non-profit group recognised by the University of Oxford.  It covers Hampshire (including Southampton and Portsmouth) and the Isle of Wight.

Anyone who has matriculated at the University and who is resident in Hampshire or the Isle of Wight is automatically eligible for membership of the group.  Non-alumni having a strong connection with the University or the Branch who are resident in Hampshire or the Isle of Wight, including widows and widowers, are also eligible for membership.

The group exists to support the University’s alumni relations programme by fostering good relations between the University and its alumni in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.  To this end the Committee of the group arranges a programme of lectures, meetings and other social events, acts as a channel of communication between the University and its members and endeavours to encourage a spirit of community in the area it covers.

To this end we have a public Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/OUS.Hampshire) and a private Facebook OUS Membership page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1875860859229604): using the latter members may arrange to get together for activities and events of mutual interest while the Committee arranges major events.

The group attaches high priority to raising aspiration for Oxford and other Higher Education applications from schools and colleges in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight with little Oxbridge or Russell Group tradition and in disadvantaged areas.  We are collaborating with the Oxford for South East regional consortium, which has responsibility for Hampshire County, Portsmouth, Southampton and the Isle of Wight.

For information about recent and forthcoming OUS group events, please visit our main web site or email the Branch Secretary.
