The James M MacLaren Society celebrates the life and works of James MacLaren (1853 - 1890), a Scottish architect who was at the forefront of the Arts and Crafts movement, designed outstanding buildings in Scotland, London and the Canary Islands, and was a major influence on Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Sir Robert Lorimer. Further information can be found on the Society's website: www.jmmaclaren.org
The James M MacLaren Society was founded in 2004. The Society promotes the appreciation of the work of this pioneering Arts and Crafts architect, and of his colleagues and successors. The Society's application to OSCR (the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator) has been successful and from 20 February 2025, the Society is now a SCIO (Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation), referred to as the James M MacLaren Society (SCIO) SC053994.
Anyone interested in Arts and Crafts architecture is invited to join the Society.
