As the UK-wide trade body representing heritage railways, tramways, cliff railways, museums and rolling stock owners we take a leading role in developing best practice while acting as the voice of the sector by enhancing relationships within the industry, government and regulators.
Our 300 members range from lengthy heritage railways operating historic steam locomotives, to short electric tramways and even miniature lines. Together they play a vital role in conservation, tourism, training and regeneration across the length and breadth of the British Isles.
They share a devotion to heritage rail and a passion for constant improvement in the sector. Together our members attract more than 13 million visitors each year and generate £600m plus to the economy.
As a Friend of the HRA you will receive the HRA Newsletter 4 times a year via email, be invited to our evening talks with industry figures which are held 4 times a year online via Teams, be able to purchase tickets to HRA Conferences and Awards at member rates and be invited to the pre event visit to heritage railways. The 2026 Friend's subscription is £30.
