MEMBERSHIP

Club members have various options available at present, and the good news is that if you are currently renewing your membership or are joining as a new member then your membership will be automatically extended until 31st March 2022 (at no extra cost) in light of the current club training restrictions owing to the Covid - 19 situation. So that's two year's membership for the price of one!

  • Basic club membership costs £20.00 per annum (just £10.00 for under 18s and over 70s)

  • England Athletics' registration is an additional £15.00 per annum. As a club runner, you can only represent your club in an open race if you have registered with EA and been allocated a unique reference number (URN) ... otherwise you will show up in race results as an "unattached" runner

  • So what are the advantages of EA membership? ... you pay reduced entry for EA affiliated races; receive discounts from local sports retailers; see   https://www.englandathletics.org/athletics-and-running/athlete-registration/benefits-of-registration/ for further details

  • As a club we are currently allocated several guaranteed Virgin London Marathon places per year, based on our level of membership. The more EA members we have within the club, the more places we would receive. The marathon draw which is held towards the end of each year is only open to EA members.

  • If you are interested in racing, then Hastings Runners stages 8 "club only" races a year including the Brenda Boyle Pier to Pier (Eastbourne to Hastings); Barry Richards 10kms; Rye to Hastings; and three 5kms races on Hastings seafront including the "celebrated" handicap race! All races are free to club members

  • In addition, club members participate regularly at Hastings parkrun (the majority of run directors are in fact Hastings Runners) as well as organised trips to other parkruns during the spring/summer. The club has enjoyed considerable success in the East Sussex Sunday Cross Country League (this is held over the autumn/winter period); as well as in the Herstmonceux Castle Relays (held in August). The club has a significant number of high calibre Masters runners, and has won medals at the prestigious British Masters National Road Running and Cross Country relays in recent years

  • Under 18s. The club membership recently approved a proposal to lower the membership age from 16 to 12. This was passed by an overwhelming majority, although it is subject to ratification by vote at the first opportunity to have a members' meeting in 2021. Please see www.hastingsrunners.co.uk for full details on safeguarding, and certain restrictions which will apply to younger members. The cost of membership for under 18s is £10.00 per annum. As mentioned above, this will automatically be extended until 31st March 2022.

  • In particular please note the following rules: ● 12-15 year olds must be accompanied to track sessions by a parent/guardian. ● 12-15 year olds can take part in the club only 5 kms races, but must be accompanied throughout the race by a parent, guardian or designated responsible adult. They are not eligible to participate in longer distance races. ● 16-17 year olds can take part in club only races up to the distance of 10 kms, but are not permitted to participate in longer distance races. ● 12-17 year olds are not eligible to attend other main club training sessions such as the Tuesday/Wednesday club nights from Horntye. This is partly to avoid putting unfair pressure on run leaders who may not be used to dealing with younger members, and partly because the runs are often well in excess of 10kms. ● Although the lowering of the membership age ends the distinction between children and adult members, we have given some thought as to whether younger members could attend committee meetings, vote on certain issues and generally be involved in the decision making process. As EA defines children and young persons as people less than 18 years of age, therefore only adult members (ie those aged 18 and over) can attend General Meetings.
