Welcome to Havering Astronomical Society  

Astronomy is a fascinating and rewarding hobby, but it’s easy to be put off by technical jargon, the high price of the equipment and the difficulty of knowing where to start. You don’t need to be a scientist, or have expensive equipment – all you need is an interest in looking up at the night sky and a wish to know more about it.

Our society is for anyone intrigued by the night sky.

We have monthly meetings and occasional observing events. We give educational talks to youth organisations and schools. We host talks given by visiting speakers and our own members, on a variety of astronomy-related topics that appeal to novice and expert alike. Our Young Astronomers section holds monthly meetings for 6-16 year olds who wish to find out more about the night sky.

We have several different membership categories

Adult                 

• Entry to our monthly meetings with speakers, presentations and practical observing (conditions allowing).
• Online access to live meetings                
• Access to our Members Only section (recordings of past meetings) on the Society website.
• Monthly e-mailed newsletter.
• Notification of our Society observing nights.
• Opportunity to take part in our many public and private outreach events.
• We hold occasional “mini meetings” just to meet and have a chat about astronomy over a cup of tea/coffee, and much more

Adult, under 30s

   Same benefits as for Adult membership

Online Only Membership               

• Online access to live meetings                
• Access to our Members Only section (recordings of past meetings) on the Society website.
• Monthly e-mailed newsletter.

Young Astronomers (6-16 yrs) (A parent or carer must accompany the child, but they are not required to join unless they wish to have Adult Membership).

• Entry to the monthly Young Astronomers meetings with speakers, presentations, and practical observing (conditions allowing)         
• Access to our Young Astronomers section on the Society website   
• Monthly e-mailed newsletter.
• Notification of our Society observing nights.
