We would like to welcome you as a full member of the FoPV. By joining, you will be helping to support activities such as our volunteer work mornings in the valley, and of course the many expenses that a large group such as ours encounters. We have three types of annual membership subscriptions which are also available as Community memberships for those who wish to set up a standing order or other form of recurring payment.
Individual (£10) is hopefully self explanatory
Family Membership (£15) allows the primary member to add up to four family members to their account..
Concession Membership (£5) is aimed at people who don't have a regular income, such as young people and students, or those without a works pension for example. (We do not ask for proof for concession membership, we leave it up to you to decide which membership you would like)
Concession +1 (£10) allows you to create a membership with two concession members rather than having to create two separate memberships.
Part of your annual membership includes a quarterly Newsletter. You can download a Full Colour version from our website.
After you have joined, your welcome pack includes membership card/s which can be used at some local outlets for a discount.
Now that we have membership Cards you can take advantage of a discount from the following local shops;
Forge Dam Cafe (20% - Drinks Only) - please show your current membership card.
Foothills (10% off Clothing and Shoes) - Outdoor clothing and equipment shop at Javlin House, 11 Edgedale Rd, Sheffield S7 2BQ.
Membership Cards are valid for the year and sent with the welcome packs to everyone who supplies an active email address. These are sent immediately to those paying online, and once payment has been received if using an offline method. You can also download them from your account if you lose them.
Fundraising is a big part of FoPV life and one easy way of doing this is by allowing us to collect Gift Aid from your subscription. Please tick the Gift Aid box during your application to confirm you are willing to allow the FoPV to do this. Gift Aid is then reclaimed by the FoPV from the tax you pay for the current tax year. Your address is needed to identify you as a current UK taxpayer.
If you want to make any changes to your details, including Gift Aid, you can do so by 'Signing In' to you account using the link in your Welcome Pack, or any subsequent email from our Membership System.
If you pay Income Tax at the higher or additional rate and want to receive the additional tax relief due to you, you must include all your Gift Aid donations on your Self-Assessment tax return or ask HM Revenue and Customs to adjust your tax code.
After completing the online form via the 'Join Us' button above, you will be given the opportunity to pay online via a secure server. Your membership will start now, and if you have provided a working email address your welcome pack will be emailed to you straight away, which includes your membership card. Print this out or save it to your phone so that you can use it when claiming a discount.
It can take a few weeks to process offline payments, however it is IMPORTANT that you complete the online membership form (press the 'Join Us' button above) before sending any offline payment, so that we have your details. Without this we can not process your membership.
If you have provided a working email address in the online form, you will receive your welcome pack once we have fully processed your payment. If you don't receive a welcome pack after a few weeks please contact us using the email link at the bottom left of this page.

Delay
Offline applications will result in your membership being set as pending until we receive your payment, so it may be a while before you receive your welcome pack and membership card.
* Sending money through the post is not secure and we strongly advise you to consider using an online option instead.
We all have different priorities for family, friends and good causes that we might be able to help when we die.
If you think that it might be appropriate to include The Friends of Porter Valley as one of the beneficiaries of your estate please get advice from your solicitor when writing your will. If you would like to discuss this in confidence, please contact us via our Contact Page.
You might be interested to know that leaving 10% or more of a net estate to a charity will mean that the rest of the estate will be taxed at 36% instead of 40%.
If you wish to change an existing will it is easy to make a Codicil to add a legacy for a beneficiary. You can download a Codicil below for this purpose with details already completed for The Friends of the Porter Valley and some guidance notes.
