Delph Sailing Club is a volunteer run sailing club nestled in the idyllic pennine moors on the outskirts of Bolton.
We are open and inclusive to all regardless of whether you have any previous sailing experience or not.
Full/Junior membership is available to anyone over the age of 18 and allows you to sail whenever you like*, compete in our Wednesday and Sunday race series and receive RYA level 1-3 training. Most training is subsidised by the club.
Formal RYA training for our cadets starts at 8 years old but given the nature of sailing, a child must be attached to a full membership to receive it. If your child wants to learn to sail or 2 or more members of your family wish to join Delph SC, then Family membership is the package for you. We also offer a guardian package at a reduced rate and do not charge berthing on childrens boats.
The RC lasers (radio controlled Laser sailing boats) meet on Wednesdays and Fridays and any Full member can take part in this enjoyable pursuit. However if you wish to sail only an RCLaser at Delph, you must become an RCLaser member to take part.
Not all members of Delph are sailors and we also offer a Social membership, available to partners and family of our full members.
This category is subject to the approval of our membership secretary as we need to establish your connection to the club.
Country is only available to those who have been members but now permanently live more than 50 miles away from Delph but wish to keep an association with the club.
You do not need to own a boat to sail at Bolton's Friendliest sailing Club. We have a large fleet of club boats included our brand new fleet of Fusions and Toppers.
The Small Print
As a volunteer organisation, we need our members to help with the running of the club. If you or your child receive training from us or regularly sail, you will be expected to do 3-4 duties a year. The duty roster is managed through a system called Dutyman where members can arrange swaps and volunteer for extra duties.
Luke Harrison currently manages the Dutyman system and he can be contacted on dutyman@delphsailingclub.com
Don't worry too much about what might be expected of you.We all began as novices and you will have the full support of our members to guide and help you. We run Powerboat courses throughout the year for our new members at a heavily subsidised cost. Another great reason to join Bolton's Friendliest Sailing Club :-)
There is no formal duty requirement from our social members but it is expected that you volunteer to help out in the galley or the bar a couple of times a year.
Members can leave their boats at the club but there is a berthing fee. Boats must be insured at all times and have a minimum cover of £2,000,000
*Subject to club events and conditions. Safety boat cover is only available during racing and social sailing and is subject to volunteer cover.
** All training is subject to availability.
