Why should I join the Class Forty Preservation Society?
The Class Forty Preservation Society has no shareholder scheme for the locomotives. We are not a supporting group for locomotives owned by anyone else – the locos are jointly owned by the entire Membership.
By joining the Class Forty Preservation Society, you will receive our highly regarded magazine ‘THE WHISTLER‘, keeping you up to date on restoration progress, details of operating dates and fundraising, and also articles and stories of interest. You can choose whether to receive a hardcopy or electronic.
Please note: the membership subscription fee is set only to cover the basic admin costs of running the Society and producing ‘THE WHISTLER‘.
Locomotive restoration, preservation and operation can be very expensive. We encourage all our Members to take part in operating and fund-raising activities – we rely on donations large and small from our Members, either to general funds or to particular appeal funds from time to time. Every little helps.
We also encourage Members to take an active part in the running of the Society by helping our volunteer team with locomotive restoration and maintenance. No particular experience is necessary, although you do need to be fairly fit and have no fear of getting dirty!
